A viewpoint switch is when the author temporarily or permanently switches the main character for the story. Viewpoint switches are often used to tell of separate adventures, or to the let the reader know what is going on in two places at once. Viewpoint switches can be marked by a new chapter, or a series of symbols such as dots (•••••).
