Imagery is writing that appeals to the five senses. It generally includes adjectives which describe something that may be sensed by one of the senses, or metaphors comparing what is actually there to something that may be sensed by one of the five senses. Imagery is important in describing scenery and characters' appearances. It is another form of Show, Don't Tell, only it applies to appearances instead of actions. For example, it is more pleasing to say that "a musical rustling sound reached my ears as the wind passed through the vivid green leaves" than to say that "the wind produced a rustling sound as it blew through the leaves".
