A chapter is a division between scenes of the story. They will be numbered and will usually have a name. A published book will usually have new chapters start on a new page, as well as including a table of contents to help readers easily find a chapter. A story can have a lot of short chapters, a few long chapters, a medium amount of medium chapters, or a mix. Life of Pi, for instance, has over 100 chapters, some of which or only a sentence long and some of which go on for pages.
